Alfresco Release 1.2
The Alfresco Enterprise Network is the open source alternative for Enterprise Content Management. Our goal is to not only to provide an open source offering but to surpass commercial offerings in terms of features, functionality and benefits to the user community. To support these goals our philosophy is to:
- Have Regular, Small, Certified Releases
- Continually Add Customer-Driven Functionality
- Push-Down Functionality from Enterprise to Community Network
- All Community Contributions added to Community Network
Release 1.2 follows this philosophy, being released 10 weeks after the launch of 1.1.
Alfresco 1.2 has increased functionality in the areas of:
- Administration – LDAP Support, Document Level Permissions exposed in web client, Upgrade Administration, Export/Import Permission support, Guest Access
- Standards Support – JSR 170 Level 2, RSS
- Customization – Web Services Starter-Kit
- Content Contribution – CIFS URL to access web client
- Team Collaboration – Forums/Threaded Discussions on a document or a space
- Advanced Search – Multiple Category and Object Type support. Saved Searches.
- Other – JBoss portal 2.2 and Firefox 1.5 support
Administration
- LDAP Support – The ability to authenticate against LDAP services and access LDAP directory services for roles and group information
- Document Level Permissions – Expose the ability of the server to support document level permissions through the web client interface
- Upgrade Administration – The ability to externalize customizations and enable automatic migration
- Export/Import – Support permissions
- Guest Access – Allow access to public areas with no username or password
Standards Support
- JSR 170 Level 2 Support – Read/Write. Optional feature support of transactions, versioning and locking
- Enterprise RSS – Ability to syndicate content from the repository through an RSS feed into an RSS Reader. This is based on a query and can be managed either through a secure or guest area
Customisation
- Web Services Start-Kit – Simple jar file for easy-to-use Web Service development. Extension of Web Services API to support Rules, Actions, Access Control and Administration
Content Contribution
- CIFS – Access to URL for advanced functionality in web client. Access to extended attributes and other actions
Team Collaboration
- Forum Support – Nested discussions available on a document or a space available as a drop-down menu
Advanced Search
- Support for more Advanced Searches – Multiple category and object type support. Searches can be saved
Other Features
- JBoss Portal Version 2.2 support
